The Vain Emperor

Many years ago there was an Emperor who was very vain and all he
thought about was new clothes for himself. He did not care about his country
or his people. He spent vast amount of money on his clothes.
The emperor often went on parades to show off his new clothes. He
changed to a different suit for every hour of the day. Instead of being with
his council members to discuss on how to rule the country, he was always
in his dressing room.
One day two swindlers came to town. They called themselves weavers
and told the Emperor that they knew how to weave the most unusual cloth.
"We create the most beautiful patterns with the most captivating
colours," they said. "Besides, our cloth will be invisible to anyone who is a
fool or is unfit for his office."
"How wonderful," the Emperor thought, "if I had such clothes, I would
be able to tell the wise from the fools. This cloth must be woven for me at
once."
Little did the Emperor realised how foolish he had been because there
is no such thing as an invisible cloth.
